About Mark

A Brief Bio…

Hippy, punk, game designer, entrepreneur, freelancer, holographer, director, manager, academic, researcher, author.

After a lifetime of imaginative writing (games & comics), Mark Eyles has been working full time on science fiction and fantasy novels since 2019. He’s learning to play the piano, goes running and practices tai chi. When there’s time he watches scifi, fantasy and superhero movies, and plays computer games.

Mark worked as Creative Director at videogame company Quicksilva (1981-1984); a holographer, freelance writer, game designer, and entrepreneur (1984-1999); Head of Design at Rebellion Developments (1999-2003); Course Leader and Section Lead at the University of Portsmouth (2003-2019), also completing a PhD in videogame design. Mark set up the Advanced Games Research Group in 2006 at the University of Portsmouth. He founded Women in Games in 2004. Mark was an advisor to videogames industry trade association TIGA (2007-2020), who awarded him Person of the Year in 2017. He has written series for comics ‘2000 AD’ and ‘Sonic the Comic’ and published in Fear magazine.

Mark is the Events Manager of the Hampshire Writers’ Society.
